He’s been described as keeper of the Deadpool flame, and sure enough, Ryan Reynolds has spent the past fortnight drumming up excitement for his imminent sequel.
And while fans have been treated to meta jokes and callbacks to the first Deadpool movie – much to the delight of David Beckham – Reynolds also took a moment to court Hugh Jackman out of X-retirement in the hope that he’ll one day share the screen with Wade Wilson.
Spoilers: it’s not happening – at least not that we know of – and while appearing on Good Morning America, Hugh Jackman delivered a message to Ryan Reynolds and advised him to “back it up a little.” It’s all in good fun, of course, given Jackman and Reynolds are close friends off set and frequently trade jokes back and forth on Twitter – not unlike how Reynolds has been poking fun at Avengers: Infinity War over the past 24 hours.

And that’s that, surely? Remember, earlier this week we caught wind of Deadpool 2‘s super-secret cameo, and it’s definitely not Hugh Jackman, though you can’t exactly blame Ryan Reynolds for trying.
Here’s what the Deadpool actor revealed to Entertainment Weekly about attempting to undo the ending of Logan:
I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He’s just the best. I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it.
Meanwhile, Deadpool 2 is due to hit theaters on May 18th – with or without Hugh Jackman.
