Star Wars Rebels Co-Creator To Write Boba Fett Film

Simon Kinberg, who co-created Star Wars Rebels, will be penning the script for James Mangold's upcoming Boba Fett movie.

In Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, audiences were first introduced to a bounty hunter named Boba Fett.

The character only had a few lines of dialogue, but the air of mystery about him and his unique suit of armor made a lasting impression. People were heartbroken to see Fett deliver Han Solo to notorious crime lord Jabba the Hutt, and they were equally outraged when the enigma met his untimely, anticlimactic end in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.

After that film, Boba Fett went on to have his origins revealed in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, as director George Lucas informed fans that the character’s an unaltered clone of another bounty hunter named Jango. From there, Boba remained in the public eye through novels, comic books, and other media, but this was all declared non-canon when The Walt Disney Company purchased Star Wars in 2012.

Save for what’d already been depicted on the big screen and in the computer animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Fett’s life was a blank slate. But now, at long last, there’s hope for those yearning to learn a little bit more about the mysterious character, as THR told us ysterday that he’ll finally be getting his very own movie. And even better is that Star Wars Rebels co-creator Simon Kinberg is now set to write it.

Currently, it’s completely unknown what sort of film Kinberg and director James Mangold will create here, as plot details and the like remain tightly under lock and key. That being said, if it’s anything like either of their previous work, it promises to be fantastic – given how accomplished each individual is.

Only time will tell if Boba deserves to rise again or if he’d have been wiser to stay inside the Sarlacc, of course, but hiring the creative team of Mangold and Kingberg is certainly a fantastic start, and has us very excited to learn more about the newest project in Lucasfilm’s juggernaut franchise.
