Orlando Bloom’s Interested In Playing Captain Britain

Orlando Bloom's no stranger to blockbuster movie franchises, as he's been in both Pirates of the Caribbean and the Middle-earth saga since the early 2000s. But to date, he's never dipped his toes into the superhero genre. Would the British star be up for that, though? Well, it turns out that he's a bit of a Marvel fan, in particular, and has one character he wouldn't mind taking a stab at.

While speaking on BBC Radio 2, the conversation turned towards Marvel movies and Bloom admitted that he does dabble in the comic book world. He then mentioned Captain Britain as a potential role he’d be interested in, though he had some strong words to say about the hero’s Union Jack-inspired outfit.

“I do read [Marvel Comics] a little bit. Who’s the British one? Captain Britain! There you go. Terrible costume, though. And you’ve also got Captain America so what you going to do? Captain Britain versus Captain America?”

For such a little known character, it’s odd to say that Bloom is the second star in a month to put his name forward for the role of Captain Britain. Earlier in May, Simon Pegg revealed that he’s been a lifelong fan of Brian Braddock (that’s Captain B’s real name, for those who don’t know) and would love to appear in a movie based on the hero, though he admitted that he might be too old for the part.

It’s interesting that two very different actors have suggested they’d like to play Captain Britain. Picking who would be better is difficult, too, as it depends on what Marvel Studios would want to do with the character. If they decided to go in a more light-hearted, Ant-Man-like direction, Pegg would be perfect. Otherwise, if they wanted a straight up English hero to measure up to Steve Rogers, then Bloom certainly wouldn’t be a bad choice.
