Whenever you picture the age old stories told in the Bible, which one is always the most familiar? If not the most recognizable, the story of David and Goliath is definitely near the top. And now, whenever you’re telling this story to the kids in your Sunday School class, you can tell them Goliath may have looked just like The Rock.
Goliath, the upcoming Biblical epic from Relativity Media and Temple Hill Entertainment, is looking to add Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as their new Goliath. Directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, The Day The Earth Stood Still), this new film could be a bust or a return to form that leads to the comeback of epic Biblical tales, but I’m leaning towards the former. What causes my reservations, you ask?
Well, standing opposite of The Rock as David could be Taylor Lautner. Yes, the very effeminate feline man could also be portraying a legend from the Bible, the young man who brought Goliath down with nothing but a sling and a rock (did I just ruin the ending?). No surprises in this casting news, because Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, producers of Twilight, are involved with the film as well.
Keep in mind this is all just speculation, as these two actors have just been in talks for the parts. There’s another film based on the Bible story of Noah to be released from director Darren Aronofsky titled Noah, but even that doesn’t look all that good, as the director revealed that he was hoping to make it a “big event film”, perhaps along the lines of huge disaster movies such as 2012. Is the world ready for biblical epics when we’re still making movies about giant robots that turn into fancy cars? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
