Obi-Wan Kenobi Plot Hole From A New Hope Debunked

Star Wars fans, eh? When we're not busy bullying Kelly Marie Tran or moaning about Solo, we're going back and nitpicking on *gasp* the Original Trilogy.

Whereas the mistreatment of Tran is out-and-out, plain disgusting and the Solo moans are largely unwarranted, this is more of a curiosity from a fan. Which is fine, as we all have plenty, right?

Taking to Twitter, Dennis DiClaudio raised the question about Obi-Wan that we’d all been asking for a long time: “Why doesn’t he remember delivering Baby Leia?” See below:

Oh, wait. It’s not that question (although that still needs addressing), but rather, it’s about Obi-Wan going into hiding on Tatooine. The quandary is that if Old Ben Kenobi was in hiding and trying to blend in, then the garb he’s wearing when we first meet him shouldn’t really be a Jedi uniform, right?

Rewind to the prequels and it seems you’re given the unflattering earthy robes before you even learn a Jedi mind trick. Yoda, Windu, Fisto…they’re all rocking them. This has some fans attributing the attire to lazy Lucas logic once again, whilst others claim the Jedi wore modest robes because they denounced wealth and material possessions, and that Tatooine is far, far away from being a wealthy land.

Luckily, hope came in the form of Matt Martin of the Lucasfilm Story Group, who shut the debate down with the following riposte:

Tell us, what do you make of the Obi-Wan dressing debate surrounding Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope? Retconned rags, or is it the uniform of the lower echelons? Do let us know in the comments section below.
