During Sony’s somewhat eclectic E3 presser this evening, Marvel and Insomniac Games peeled back the curtain on a new and really rather stunning gameplay clip from Spider-Man, the PS4 exclusive that looks set to place our friendly neighborhood Web-Head on a collision course with Rhino, Vulture, Electro, Mister Negative, Green Goblin, and a mystery villain that’s yet to be revealed. Kingpin, perhaps?

Whatever the case, this extended gameplay demo sends Spidey off to the Raft, where a bunch of crooks are threatening to escape and run riot in New York City. Things go from bad to worse, though, as it isn’t long before Peter Parker’s deadliest enemies combine to form something of a villainous super-team, though it’s unclear who’s pulling the strings…

The PS4 exclusive continues to be paraded in front of the E3 masses, so we can readily expect more gameplay to surface for Spider-Man over the coming days. And beyond that? Insomniac’s executive creative director, Bill Rosemann, has high hopes for a possible Marvel Games franchise, not dissimilar to the cinematic universe that continues to dominate box office charts left, right and center.

I mean, they tacked on that Nick Fury scene at the end of Iron Man but did anyone think it would culminate in The Avengers? Or now Avengers Infinity War? That was a pipe dream. The first intention was, let’s just make the best Iron Man movie. We’re approaching it the same way.

This is going to be hard enough. Let’s just make the best Spider-Man game. Let’s do that. The rest will take care of itself. Who knows what the future holds? We just want to make sure each individual game is awesome, is great. Again we don’t want to trap people and contain people. We want to give them freedom.

Marvel’s Spider-Man title launches exclusively for PlayStation 4 on September 7th.
