Tom Holland Wants To See Venom In The MCU

When asked this weekend which Spider-Man villain he wants to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Holland pointed to Venom.

Once the dust settled from Sony’s landmark announcement involving its own Marvel Universe, question marks were raised as to whether Ruben Fleischer’s Venom movie would stand on its own or, similarly to Spider-Man: Homecoming, be folded into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. Or, in the words of Sony chief Amy Pascal, be an “adjunct” to the MCU.

Questions continued to swirl around the four corners of the Internet for a number of weeks, and the conflicting comments from both Marvel and Sony – specifically Kevin Feige and Pascal – only exacerbated an already confusing situation. Eventually, though, we received firm confirmation that Venom and its embryonic brethren (see: Black Cat and Silver Sable) will stand on their own, independent of the MCU.

So, after much back and forth, it seems that both parties are finally signing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to VenomSpider-Man: Homecoming, and the two distinct cinematic universes to which they belong. But that hasn’t stopped a handful of actors from dreaming up an ideal scenario that would allow for some form of a crossover – including Tom Holland.

When asked at ACE Comic-Con this weekend which Spidey villain he’d love to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he offered up Venom as his top choice. Obviously, this can never happen given that, as we said above, Eddie Brock exists in a different franchise, but it’s nice to hear that Holland’s interested regardless.

Besides, I guess you never know what may come to be down the road. After all, Disney and Sony Pictures were able to broker a deal that allowed Holland’s web-head to appear in Civil War – not to mention several other films following that – so it’s not exactly out of the question. At this point, though, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Venom, meanwhile, has been earmarked for release on October 5th, when Tom Hardy will apparently deliver a superhero performance for the ages.
