Guardians of the Galaxy director and all-around MCU veteran James Gunn took to Twitter earlier this morning to share his thoughts on Ant-Man and the Wasp. Spoilers: he loved it!
Echoing the sequel’s pre-release buzz, Gunn hailed Ant-Man 2 as a “hilarious and moving” addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and its “wall-to-wall fun” is not to be missed. He also took a moment to advise fans that Ant-Man and the Wasp is better enjoyed if it’s viewed before Avengers 4, all but confirming that the former’s finale dovetails with the calamitous events of Avengers: Infinity War – either that, or Peyton Reed has a surprise tucked away up his sleeve.
We’ve already caught wind of the movie’s unmissable post-credit stings, so it shouldn’t be too much longer before everyone has a better read on Ant-Man and the Wasp and the connective tissue it shares with Avengers 4.
Until then, here’s James Gunn’s bite-sized review:
#AntManAndTheWasp is everything you want it to be. Hilarious, sweet, moving, & wall-to-wall fun. Killer work, @MrPeytonReed! And great performances by @EvangelineLilly, @hannahjk1 & of course @Dastmalchian. I loved it! (Pro tip: see it before Avengers 4!)
The director was also full of praise for Evangeline Lilly, Hannah John-Kamen and David Dastmalchian, whose Kurt is one of the low-level crooks who assists Scott Lang during those daring heists. But unlike Michael Peña’s Luis, he’s straight to the point, and is able to keep his stories under the hour mark.
As for the director’s final pro tip, there’s a solid nine months (and change) standing between Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers 4, so there’ll be ample time to watch Peyton Reed’s teeny-tiny sequel ten times over before we reunite with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for what may well be their most dangerous mission yet.
