As it’s been going for almost 20 years now, the X-Men franchise has changed its entire cast over the years (all but Wolverine, that is). Nowadays, major roles like Professor X, Magneto and Mystique are played by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, and the last time we saw the original cast all together was 2014’s time-traveling adventure X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Director Bryan Singer has now given us a throwback to filming on that movie by sharing an old group photo. The image features the assembled cast of the future-set scenes of Days of Future Past in what Singer described as “our mini theater.” You can see that everyone’s still wearing their costumes, too, and from top to bottom we have Daniel Cudmore (Colossus), Booboo Stewart (Warpath), Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Fan Bingbing (Blink), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Halle Berry (Storm), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Omar Sy (Bishop), Adan Canto (Sunspot) and, last but not least, Hugh Jackman (Wolverine).
Longtime fans will, of course, recognize most of those names as they starred in the original trilogy of X-Men movies. Four of the actors might be less familiar to you, though, as they only appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past playing younger recruits to the team that’d joined the mutant hero squad at some point before the Sentinel-controlled timeline came to pass.
The only one of these folks to appear since this entry in the series though is (Patrick) Stewart, who showed up for one last outing as the ailing professor in Logan. Ellen Page is also open to reprise her role for Tim Miller’s upcoming Kitty Pryde solo movie, but we haven’t heard too much about that just yet.
The other characters, meanwhile, have been recast, such as Colossus, now played by Stefan Kapicic in the Deadpool films and Sunspot, to be portrayed by Henry Zaga in 2019’s The New Mutants. Still, this is a nice little throwback that Singer’s shared and has us excited about what comes next for the beloved franchise.
