It’s no secret that David Leitch and his writing team trimmed a lot of material from Deadpool 2 – hell, word is Ryan Reynolds was tinkering with the sequel’s punchlines right up until the 11th hour – and sure enough, we’re now hearing that we’ll get to see all, or at least a good chunk, of the stuff that didn’t make it into the final cut.
Earlier today, Comic-Con released their schedule for the events taking place on Saturday, July 21st and among them is a panel for the Merc’s recent sequel in Hall H from 5:15-6:15pm PST, which will be followed by a screening of what’s being called Deadpool 2: Uncut. Details on what exactly it’ll contain are being kept under lock and key, but it’s described as “a super-duper special screening of Deadpool 2 and maybe some surprises.”
While this isn’t exactly groundbreaking news, as Leitch had already teased that an extended version might be coming to Blu-ray, it’s certainly nice to hear, as it not only confirms it but reveals that those in attendance at Comic-Con will get the chance to check out this new cut ahead of time.
Speaking about what footage didn’t make it into the theatrical version, the Deadpool 2 director revealed the following back in May:
“The suicide scene is in there, and there’s a scene in the mansion in the kitchen over breakfast. There’s some extra Domino stuff. There’s a lot of fun little bits, and then a lot of alts! We’re looking for every place we can put an alt.”
It sounds like they’ve got a lot to add back in, which is great to hear. After all, Deadpool 2 was a hugely enjoyable movie and even despite its runtime – 119 minutes – it never once felt too long or like it was dragging on. As such, we’re more than happy to sit down and watch a lengthier version once it’s ready for us.
