Captain Marvel May Share A Link With Iron Man And The Avengers

Captain Marvel will introduce Brie Larson's Carol Danvers into the MCU for the first time, but it'll also feature a host of connections to the franchise's past. As the movie's set in the 1990s, it'll see Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg reprise their fan favorite roles as Nick Fury and Phil Coulson to explore how they met their first superhero. What's more, Guardians of the Galaxy's Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou are back as well as the Kree villains Ronan and Korath, respectively.

Some new intel suggests that there might be even more connections hidden in Captain Marvel, though. Screen Rant has noticed an intriguing credit on the film’s IMDB page. According to the site, Mel Powell will play “Pegasus Guard Ficke.” Now, it’s worth remembering that anyone can edit IMDB, but this is such an obscure nod that we’re tempted to believe it’s a genuine credit.

So why’s it important? Well, fans who were paying attention back in Phase One of the MCU might know. In Iron Man 2, Tony Stark did some research on some of his father Howard Stark’s old projects. One of these was Project: Goliath, which was later explored in Ant-Man and the Wasp, and the other was Project: P.E.G.A.S.U.S. In The Avengers, we learned what this consisted of, too, as it was revealed to be the cover name for S.H.I.E.L.D.’s studying of the Tesseract.

We don’t expect the Tesseract to appear in Captain Marvel, but it’s worth noting that, in the comics, P.E.G.A.S.U.S. is dedicated to finding alternative energy sources. In 2007’s “Secret Invasion,” the project’s base was even a target for the Skull armies. As the Skrulls will feature in this movie, and it’s even possible that the pic will adapt “Secret Invasion” to some degree, you can see how P.E.G.A.S.U.S. may fit into CM‘s plot.

It’s possible that whatever P.E.G.A.S.U.S. is hiding could be the MacGuffin, the reason why the Kree-Skrull war comes to Earth or maybe even why Carol Danvers gets her powers in the first place. That’s just conjecture on our part but, if we can trust this new info, the shape of Captain Marvel is definitely starting to come together.
