If the Marvel Cinematic Universe is fast approaching the tail-end of Phase 3 with Captain Marvel and the so-far untitled Avengers 4, then Warner Bros. is bracing for the second phase of its own DC Extended Universe.
And riding the crest of that particular wave is Aquaman, the James Wan-directed standalone movie that has finally – finally! – breached the surface. The film’s first poster is already out in the wild, as is the official synopsis, which is designed to shed some light on Arthur Curry’s solo pic ahead of that hotly-anticipated trailer reveal on Saturday, July 21st.
All of this means that diehard Aquaman fans have been perched on the edge of their seats since Monday, and now, Warner Bros. (h/t Heroic Hollywood) has offered up yet more plot intel via the official website for the pic.
The film reveals the origin of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime–one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
And fear not: Aquaman‘s maritime adventure is worlds apart from the doom and gloom of Justice League, after lead star Jason Momoa went on record just yesterday to outline the differences between one DC epic and the next. It all comes down to one person – James Wan, whose horror influences have helped shape the origins pic into something that we’ve never seen before.
Part Star Wars, part Avatar, look for Aquaman to plunge beneath the waves on December 21st, with the first trailer expected online this coming weekend.
