Slowly but surely, we’re learning more about what to expect from the upcoming Aquaman solo film when it comes to how the major players will appear. I mean, Justice League gave us a good idea of what’s in store for Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry and Amber Heard’s Mera’s respective fashions, but it wasn’t until last month that we knew what Nicole Kidman’s Queen Atlanna, Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta looked like.
That said, we may be able to top each of those with today’s effort, as Den of Geek has revealed the cover for its San Diego Comic-Con special edition magazine. To be honest, this piece influenced by the work of artists Ivan Reis, Joe Prado and Marcelo Maiolo looks good enough to serve as a theatrical poster or Blu-ray cover, and will be distributed Wednesday-Sunday at the pop culture event.
As you can see, the cover spotlights the likes of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, not to mention Patrick Wilson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in their respective Ocean Master and Black Manta headgear. Not only that, but we’re also granted our first look at the deep sea race known as the Trench.
If anything, this further evidences that DC Comics lovers are in for a real treat, especially if you dug Geoff Johns’ Aquaman run back in the New 52 days. Needless to say, that material served as inspiration for the animated film Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, so there’s a good chance you’ve become acquainted with it in some fashion already.
How the above tales factor into James Wan’s epic ultimately remains to be seen, but we can’t wait to find out when Aquaman arrives in theaters on December 21st.
