In anticipation of the film’s showcase at San Diego Comic-Con tomorrow, a third, and presumably final, Glass trailer tease has debuted online, and it’s all about the returning Elijah “Mr. Glass” Price.
Brought to life by Marvel veteran Samuel L. Jackson (Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel), Price was first introduced almost two decades ago, when Unbreakable, M. Night Shyamalan’s original superpowered thriller, birthed a cinematic franchise the likes of which we’ve never seen before. And now, 18 years and one delightfully twisted sequel (?) later, we arrive at Glass, and it appears Mr. Price is still hellbent on showcasing his powers to the world.
However, this time there’s a twist – he’s one of three supercharged individuals set to headline M. Night Shyamalan’s atypical threequel, given Glass has also made room in its ranks for the David Dunn (Bruce Willis) and Kevin Wendell Crumb, the socially deranged ‘beast’ as played by X-Men star James McAvoy. The latter two have already enjoyed their five minutes 15 seconds of fame (David here; Kevin there), so it’s only fitting that Elijah Price gets the spotlight, too.
If nothing else, this promo is yet more evidence that with Glass, M. Night Shyamalan hopes to create common ground between two of cinema’s most popular genres – comic book and thriller. Such a daring mix-up has supposedly created the first “truly grounded” superhero movie, and the addition of Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) as psychiatrist Dr. Ellie Staple only adds a layer TV prestige to the threequel’s ensemble.
Unbreakable, Split and now Glass, the third and presumably final installment in what’s shaping up to be a genre-bending trilogy. Its ETA? January 18th.
