Martian Manhunter Will Be A More Proactive Hero In Supergirl Season 4

As various Arrowverse series continue fleshing out their casts, it's only natural for some viewers to favor supporting characters over the titular heroes. By now, I'm sure some of you reading this adore Caitlin Snow over on The Flash, or - hold for effect - happen to be a devoted follower of Arrow's Felicity Smoak.

On that note, I must confess that my favorite member of the Supergirl crew is that of J’onn Jonzz AKA the Martian Manhunter. No joke, ever since the big reveal hit back in season 1, I’ve really taken to David Harewood’s iteration. Having been a fan of said superhero for years prior, I will say the guy has made me proud on countless occasions.

Still, it’s been hard to overlook how J’onn shows up in his Earthling guise more often than not, as his appearance more familiar to comic book readers relies heavily on CGI. But now that he’s put Alex Danvers in charge of the DEO where he spent most of his time, it looks like we can expect to see a more proactive butt-kicker going forward.

Letting us know of this is executive producer Robert Rovner, who spoke to TV Guide for their latest Comic-Con Special and told them that we’ll soon bear witness to someone more accurately resembling the “J’onn J’onnz in the comic books – a man of the people, fighting for the underdog.”

If that’s the case, then let’s hope the crew working behind the cameras finds a compromise and fits Harewood for some prosthetics so the budget isn’t spiked every time Martian Manhunter goes green. I mean, I don’t mind seeing David each week, but you can’t always have him fighting crime while wearing Hank Henshaw’s face.

Supergirl returns for its fourth season on Sunday, October 14 on The CW.
