With Matt Murdock ostensibly out of the picture – you have The Defenders mini-series to thank for that one – it seems that young Danny Rand will be picking up where Daredevil left off, after all. Which is to say that he’ll be waging a war against the rotting criminal underbelly of Hell’s Kitchen.
Or so says the official synopsis for Iron Fist season 2. Released alongside last night’s incredible first teaser trailer, Marvel and Netflix have vowed to “further the transformation” of Danny Rand later this year, and it seems as though he’ll uphold the promise he made to Matt Murdock during the tail-end of The Defenders.
Say what you will about Iron Fist and his cocksure attitude, but you can’t fault Danny’s loyalty, as the former defender of K’un-Lun looks set to pick up where Daredevil left off.
“Season 2 furthers the transformation of Danny, a character with a fish out of water coming of age story making his way in a harsh new world, battling to work out who he is,” reads the synopsis. “This season, Danny has promised that with Matt Murdock gone, he will step up and protect his city. But a sinister plot twist threatens his very identity and he must conquer his villains to protect the town and people he holds close to his heart.”
That’s not the only connection to Marvel’s Daredevil series, what with Mary Walker (AKA Typhoid Mary) also set to feature in Iron Fist season 2. She’ll be played by none other than Alice Eve, who becomes the latest big-name actress to join the ranks of Marvel and Netflix’s superhero franchise. Remember, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing are already involved in season 2, so there may be hope for a Daughters of the Dragon spinoff yet…
Iron Fist is the only Marvel property currently in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, so don’t expect much in the way of new announcements. Season 2, though, will be with us on September 7th.
