As was to be expected, San Diego Comic-Con has once again proven to provide many golden eggs for us Arrowverse fans. Not only did a kick-ass new trailer for Supergirl‘s fourth season debut earlier today, but we’re continuing to learn how the cast will be expanding in the coming year.
Had you viewed the video package just referenced, then you no doubt saw the debut of the enigmatic Agent Liberty played by Smallville alum Sam Witwer. Naturally, he’s not the only pain in the neck the Girl of Steel and her cohorts will have to deal with, as someone very familiar to comic book readers will be making his way to the small screen before long, too.
As it turns out, the rumors alleging that Manchester Black would be booking a trip to National City proved correct. According to Heroic Hollywood, David Ajala has landed the role, though it remains to be seen how much of the character’s punk rock appearance will be retained from the source material.
While this guy may not be as familiar to mainstream audiences as, say, Lex Luthor or Doomsday, Black has enjoyed some exposure outside of literature in recent years. In fact, it’s highly recommended that you check out the animated film Superman vs. The Elite not only for a fine primer on him, but also as an examination of how Big Blue remains relevant for modern viewers.
On the flip side, the Maiden of Might will gain a new ally in the form of transgender superhero Nia Nal AKA Dreamer, set to be embodied by Nicole Maines (also via Heroic Hollywood). So far, the network hasn’t shied away from affording various groups of people representation, so it should be intriguing to see how this new crimefighter holdsĀ their own when Supergirl returns for its fourth season on Sunday, October 14 on The CW.
