Venom Director Vows To Deliver The Most Violent And Vicious Marvel Movie Yet

During Venom's SDCC panel, director Ruben Fleischer vowed to deliver a live-action Marvel character more violent and more vicious than anything we've seen before.

In fact, as Fleischer tells ComicBook.com, the end product has crafted a tone that is darker and more violent than any Marvel-backed project before it. This is a growling anti-hero capable of removing a human head using only his teeth, after all.

So while Venom missed out on that fabled R-rating, Sony’s franchise-starter comes pretty damn close, as Ruben Fleischer believes it’ll deliver a live-action Marvel character more violent and more vicious than anything we’ve seen before. Topher Grace’s symbiote this is not.

That’s the plan. It is not the plan, that’s the movie. Our movie wants to honor the comics as close as we can tonally. In the comics, he bites people’s heads off and eats brains. This is definitely a darker, more violent, more vicious Marvel character than I think anyone’s ever seen before.

Those comments were made during Venom‘s SDCC panel, when the subsequent footage revealed an overly faithful rendition of the titular anti-hero – not only does the alien symbiote emerge from Eddie’s chest to engage in conversation, but it’s also capable of towering over its enemies before delivering that fatal blow. Color us very, very intrigued.

Venom slithers into theaters on October 5th, when Eddie Brock’s down-on-his-luck reporter will be opening a case to monitor Dr. Carlton Drake, the billionaire genius behind the Life Foundation. And it’s there where he encounters a goopy symbiote not of this world…
