At this point, we’ve spent the better part of a decade waiting for the Jim and John Thomas-created extraterrestrial killing machine to get another shot at a proper sequel, and judging from what’ve seen thus far, Shane Black will be the one to deliver all of the “genre sh*t” we’ve come to expect from the franchise in The Predator. And given that he witnessed the titular monster wreak havoc with his own two eyes back in 1987, he really does seem like the perfect man for the job.
Granted, bringing the property into the twenty-first century wasn’t always easy – see Alien vs. Predator, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem and Predators – but with Fox’s upcoming film, the eponymous beast does appear to have found secure footing, which is a great thing for a disgruntled fanbase. For those forced to tangle with the extraterrestrial killing machine, on the other hand, not so much.
Unfortunately though, it’s not home free just yet, as we’re learning today that the studio has ordered up even more reshoots for the pic. These follow on from heavy reshoots done a couple of months back, which re-tooled the film’s third act, among other things. From what we understand, this new set of reshoots will only last 2 days, which means that whatever’s being addressed probably isn’t too serious, but it’s still slightly concerning to hear that The Predator is being sent back before the cameras yet again.
Said to be an “explosive reinvention” of the sci-fi classic, it looks as if Black has stripped away most of the CG carnage that the series has relied on in previous installments in favor of old-school scares, which is something else that’s evident in all the trailers that’ve been released so far. And if you’re still hungry for additional info, be sure to check out the plot synopsis below, which outlines the movie’s premise.
The universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
On September 14th, The Predator strikes, and you’ll never see him coming…
