Long before Avengers: Infinity War brought Marvel’s big-name heroes together in spectacular fashion, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were at loggerheads during Captain America: Civil War.
It’s the other MCU ensemble piece that threatened to collapse under its own weight, so it’s a credit to Joe and Anthony Russo – not to mention screenwriting duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely – that Civil War turned out to be a resounding success. And one need only look at the box office numbers ($1.15 billion worldwide) for evidence of that.
Granted, it’s not without its faults, but as far as MCU storytelling goes, Captain America: Civil War did a stand-up job of weaving Bucky Barnes into the equation, before using the Winter Soldier to thrust a wedge between Tony Stark and his former ally, Steve Rogers.
The former MCU double act feature in this newly-unveiled BTS pic from the threequel, which comes to us by way of Instagram (h/t Reddit). The caption? “Quick rest before trying to kill each other again…”
If nothing else, it’s a timely reminder that the Marvel effects team deserves major props for designing every inch of Iron Man and the Winter Soldier’s respective costumes with care and craft. Tony Stark’s armor will always require a little CGI enhancement so that it can take to the skies, which came in pretty handy during the famous airport battle of Captain America: Civil War.
Speaking of which, chances are this shot is taken from later on in the movie, rather than during the monumental stand-off between Team Iron Man and Team Cap. Either way, it makes for a welcome peek behind the curtain, though only one of those characters pictured is still alive and ready for Avengers 4. No prizes for guessing who…
