You’ve heard of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy, but what about Starforce?
It’s seemingly the Kree equivalent of SEAL Team Six, a group of costumed crusaders so powerful and diverse, that they’re willing to wage war against the Skrull threat and, more specifically, their crooked leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn).
This is where the standalone Captain Marvel movie differs from its source material; this time around, Talos also possesses the ability to shapeshift, and may well be the reason Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury lost an eye, as the film’s big bad is reportedly set to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. and act as one of their own.
But buried within EW’s media dump is a sneak peek at Gemma Chan suited and booted as Minn-Erva, a Kree geneticist who appears to be wielding some form of advanced rifle. She’s pictured here to the right of Carol Danvers.
And yes, your eyes do not deceive you; that’s Ronan the Accuser tucked away in the left of the shot, who appears to be standing next to Jude Law’s commander, Mar-Vell. Last time we caught a glimpse of Lee Pace’s tyrant, he was being challenged to a dance-off by the irreverent Star-Lord during the Guardians of the Galaxy finale. Djimon Hounsou, on the other hand, is back as Korath the Pursuer.
Meanwhile, Doctor Minerva is said to feature quite prominently in the Captain Marvel movie, though firm details of her role are being kept locked away in the Marvel vaults. But today’s EW showcase ought to get the ball rolling, and surely now we’re only five-to-six weeks out from the film’s debut trailer.
An October release window appears likely (attached to First Man, perhaps?) before the first-look Avengers 4 teaser arrives shortly thereafter.
