Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse may still be a few months away, but if you’d like another chance to savor the electrifying animation of the upcoming superhero flick then this little promo could be just what you need.
This weekend sees the release of the new Spider-Man video game on the PS4, and to tie in with this highly anticipated launch, Sony have released a quick sneak peek of the wall-crawler’s next picture. Of course, that should really be ‘wall-crawlers’ plural, in that Peter Parker’s having to share screen time with a whole load more Spider-People.
One such web-slinger is the young Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore. The actor shows up in this new video to remind us that “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the first movie about a bi-racial superhero.” Naturally, Peter’s also on hand, this time voiced by Jake Johnson, but rather than serving as Tony Stark’s protégé, the new movie will see Parker in the mentor role.
Johnson himself also makes an appearance in the clip, explaining that “Miles has got to learn from the more experienced Spider-People.” While the New Girl actor’s likely referring primarily to his own character, the number of characters gifted and cursed with wall crawling abilities goes well beyond the pairing of Peter and Miles.
For one thing, Hailee Steinfeld’s voicing Gwen Stacy in her Spider-Gwen incarnation, while Nicolas Cage plays Spider-Man Noir. Throw in John Mulaney as Peter Porker, aka Spider-Ham, and Kimiko Glenn as Peni Parker, aka SP//dr, and the skies of New York start to look awfully crowded.
We’ll see how Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse handles this eccentric array of web-slingers when the film comes out on December 14th, but for what it’s worth, Moore assures us the movie’s going to take Spider-Man to a whole new level.
