While Disney remain stingy on official announcements regarding next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX, the leaks, rumors, and theories just keep coming, each offering some indication of how the J.J. Abrams-directed film could pick things up after the various divisive twists of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
This latest leak suggests that the First Order has a traitor in their midst, and while the mysterious figure might not exactly be a Resistance sympathizer, this could still mean good news for Rey, Finn, and the rest.
The report makes the following assertion:
“Kylo Ren is suspicious of an individual in the First Order handing out information to the Resistance. Part of the Episode 9 storyline will have a cat and mouse element to it, similar to Revenge of the Sith where the Jedi were trying to find out who the Sith lord is, which turned out to be Palpatine.”
Well, Abrams did say that he planned to reference the prequels in his upcoming movie. What’s more, the traitor is said to be General Hux, Kylo Ren’s bitter associate who’s been known to have a few clashes of egos with the new Supreme Leader. While Hux may not care for the cause of the rebels, he certainly seems like a petty enough character to harm the First Order just to make Kylo look bad, with the General perhaps hoping to assume his place at the top of the chain of command.
Still, it’s hard to imagine this coup working out too well for Hux, with Abrams unlikely to let the character off the hook for all the terrible things he’s done in the trilogy so far. For the sake of Domhnall Gleeson, let’s just hope that Hux gets a few funny scenes before he suffers whatever ugly fate this trilogy-closer has planned for him when Star Wars: Episode IX comes out on December 20th, 2019.
