Introducing Poe Dameron, Commander of the Resistance.
Lucasfilm and Marvel Comics confirmed as much with the final issue of Star Wars: Poe Dameron (h/t ComicBook.com), in which General Leia Organa hands out a promotion to the best damn pilot in the galaxy.
It’s an important moment for the Resistance fly boy, given he consistently disobeyed orders all throughout The Last Jedi. Still, it looks as though Poe Dameron has been handed a shot at redemption – and not a moment too soon, given Star Wars: Episode IX is beginning to loom over the horizon.
Filming is already underway across parts of the United Kingdom, where Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill and Oscar Isaac have been spotted acting out the final chapter of Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Saga. That’s almost worth the price of admission alone, but down below, you’ll see that Oscar Isaac’s hot-headed X-wing pilot has landed the role of a lifetime.
It’s a small, yet vital detail going into the launch of Star Wars: Episode IX, as it reminds us that J.J. Abrams and Co. are beginning to angle Poe Dameron to be Leia’s natural successor at the forefront of the Resistance. His temperament may need a little work, but gaining the rank of Commander ought to ensure that Poe adheres to the book as he continues to climb the ladder towards General status.
Star Wars: Episode IX shoots for theaters on December 20th, 2019, by which point we’ll surely have a better idea of how Lucasfilm plans to proceed with its Star Wars saga beyond 2019. A Solo sequel is ostensibly out of the equation, so perhaps we’ll hear more intel about those standalone stories earmarked for Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi? Time will tell.
