Elizabeth Olsen Says The Visions In Avengers: Age Of Ultron Didn’t Foreshadow Infinity War

The vision sequences in Avengers: Age of Ultron have been the subject of many a theory, with fans frequently alleging that these nightmarish sections foreshadow the apocalyptic events of this year’s Avengers: Infinity War. A major player in both of those movies, however, is now suggesting that we may have gotten a little carried away.

The statement comes from the primary source of these ominous passages, Elizabeth Olsen, whose character Scarlet Witch spent much of Age of Ultron messing with the perceptions of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. In a panel at ACE Comic Con, the actress implied that the meaning of these visions wasn’t really intended to go beyond the movie they featured in.

“I’m not sure. I think it’s up to interpretation. It wasn’t something that I remember someone was saying that we’re going to go full circle to Infinity War — there wasn’t an Infinity War at that time. But I think I always thought of it being what would happen if Ultron won. But I think it’s more interesting the way you’re thinking about it.”

It seems that Marvel Studios might not plan ahead as meticulously as we’d often like to think. At the same time, Olsen’s statement suggests that these visions are open to interpretation, so if you’d rather stick with the theories that link the 2015 film to Infinity War, then apparently you have the actress’ blessing.

Things didn’t end so well for Wanda Maximoff in her last movie, of course, with the Avenger turning to dust as part of Thanos’ purging of the universe, but seeing how the character has her own TV show in the works, it’s clear that Olsen’s run in the franchise isn’t over yet – and that’s more than we can guarantee for many of her fellow superheroes.

Speaking of worrying prophecies of destruction, Olsen teased at the same panel that “it’s only going to get worse” in the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, and we’ll find out just what she means when Avengers 4 comes out on May 3rd, 2019.
