While we may not know everything about the next major Arrowverse crossover, which is titled “Elseworlds,” just yet, one could say that the puzzle is starting to come together in the most interesting of ways.
Already, we can confirm that the mega event will introduce Ruby Rose as Batwoman, Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell will swap places as the Flash and Green Arrow, Tyler Hoechlin is set to slip into a black Superman costume, and all signs point toward Doctor Destiny being the main villain. Sounds pretty awesome, doesn’t it?
Perhaps the biggest talking point so far, though, has been just why Gustin and Amell are switching roles, and while we still can’t answer that for you just yet, we do have a new set photo to share today which shows the latter actor rocking the suit one would usually see on Mr. Barry Allen. It might not be an official shot, but this pic still gives us a pretty good idea of what Amell will look like as The Flash and we can’t wait to see him in action as the Speedster.
As mentioned above, this year’s crossover is titled “Elseworlds,” which is a nod to DC’s line of comics that include fan favorites like Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Superman: Red Son and Kingdom Come, which provided us with alternate takes on some of the company’s most iconic heroes. It’s pretty much been replaced by the new Black Label imprint, but the legacy lives on through television.
Even after looking to the source material, though, there’s still much we can’t explain about The CW’s big event and with so many intriguing puzzle pieces on the board, it’s becoming tougher and tougher to piece everything together.
Thankfully, then, we’ll find out soon enough why Barry and Oliver have changed places, why Supes has a black suit on and just how Batwoman fits into all this, as the Arrowverse crossover begins on Sunday, December 9 with The Flash, continues on Monday, December 10 with Arrow, and wraps up on Tuesday, December 11 with Supergirl.
