Even after facing their innermost fears and banishing Pennywise to the murky depths of Derry, Maine, the Losers’ Club are still gearing up for round two, as the aptly named It: Chapter Two is now starting to rear its ugly head over the horizon. And though the film is still a ways away, it looks as if the studio’s about to fire up the marketing campaign.
After seeing scores of set photos and videos, the first official piece of promotional material has debuted today and it comes in the form of a poster. Seen below, this is simply a teaser for what’s on the way and as such, doesn’t really reveal anything but the film’s title and release date. Still, like we said, it’s a sign that the marketing machine’s about to kick into high gear and we imagine a trailer can’t be too far off now.
Until then, though, feast your eyes on the barebones poster below and prepare yourselves for the return of Pennywise.
Set to creep into theaters on September 6th, 2019, the hugely anticipated sequel apparently has big things in store for Pennywise the Dancing Clown after It made him into a bonafide pop culture icon. Speaking in an interview a while back, Bill Skarsgård explained that when he returned to the role for Chapter Two, he found that the character was already there, just hiding within him until he could emerge once again to haunt us all.
We had the read-through and I’ve done some rehearsals, and I was surprised how much of the character was just there already. I instantly could access him again, like it was yesterday that we wrapped the first one. It was just all there. So, the work and preparation and figuring out the character is almost intuitive, which is pretty cool. It’s a very strange thing, but I’m trying to enjoy the ride, as much as I can.
The actor also spoke about what it was like to welcome stars like Jessica Chastain (Beverly Marsh), James McAvoy (Bill Denbrough) and Bill Hader (Richie Tozier) to Derry, Maine 27 years after the fact.
But off camera, I get to hang out with the entire adult cast now. It’s weird and it’s surreal because some of them are really big stars and they’re coming in to your thing. They’re stepping into the thing that me and Andy and the kids did. They’re joining the band, in a way. They’re excited, and I just had a lot of fun hanging out with all of them. It’s going to be a very different shooting experience with all adults, for sure, but it will be fun. They’re all really cool and talented people, so I think they will bring a lot to the table.
Said to be a heartbreaking conclusion to the Losers Club saga, one which will also bring us one of the book’s most bizarre scenes, It: Chapter Two will haunt your dreams on September 6th.
