Peter Quill got a lot of backlash for his emotional outburst on Titan, but going by a newly shared preview of the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War artbook, Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – The Art of the Movie, the Guardians of the Galaxy star may not have always been part of the plan that he so famously screwed up.
The concept art shows a struggle between Thanos and several of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Captain America, Black Widow, Thor and even the Hulk, with Bruce Banner evidently not having the same transformation difficulties as we saw in the eventual film. But what’s more unusual about this fight is that it bears a striking resemblance to the battle on Titan, which saw Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and several of the Guardians attempt to remove the conqueror’s gauntlet.
So unless the writers were planning to deliver more or less the same set piece twice, albeit with different characters, perhaps we could’ve received a version of Infinity War where Star-Lord doesn’t lose his cool, or at least not in the same way. Thor, on the other hand, makes his own oft-referenced error even in this scenario, with the God of Thunder seen plunging Stormbreaker into the tyrant’s chest.
Like a vision of 14,000,605 futures, there are many different ways in which the events of Avengers: Infinity War could’ve unfolded, but it’s likely that most of these potential journeys would’ve ended with the Snap taking place. We’ll see how this cliffhanger is resolved when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019, but in the meantime, there’ll be a lot more concept art where this came from when Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War – The Art of the Movie comes out on November 6th.
