A couple of weeks ago, Reddit user Garrett Thomas relayed the alleged info that the official title for Star Wars: Episode IX will be “Star Wars: Son of Darkness,” adding that “this should be public knowledge by Christmas.” Fast-forward to Christmas Eve, and we’ve yet to get any confirmation that this is the case, and yet the same fan came back just last night with some visual evidence for their assertion.
In a new post, Thomas shares what they claim to be a leaked logo for J.J. Abrams’ next film, and while this certainly looks like something a fan with with Photoshop skills could’ve made at home, Thomas claims that “something is coming in the next 2 days, either on ESPN or ABC.” Naturally, a lot of folks are skeptical of this leak’s legitimacy, and so they should be with all the fake intel that makes the rounds on Reddit, but like Thomas says, we’ll know soon enough whether or not this is the real thing.
In the meantime, the “Son of Darkness” subtitle has already inspired some speculation from the fans, some of whom see potential in the name. Specifically, it’s been pointed out that this was a title used by Snoke for Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi, though seeing how Ben Solo’s parents aren’t the especially dark kinds, you could argue that the name would actually be more fitting for his uncle Luke.
As for whether we’ll see any footage in the next couple of days, much of the internet seems in agreement that a full-on teaser is unlikely to drop by the end of the year, but we just might get a behind-the-scenes featurette this week, which may indeed come with a title reveal. Regardless, we now have less than a year to wait before the whole movie comes our way, with Star Wars: Episode IX hitting theaters on December 20th, 2019.
