Though Margot Robbie’s character is the only one mentioned in the protracted title of Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), the upcoming DC flick will see the Clown Princess of Crime team up with an assortment of formidable DCEU newcomers.
For one thing, you have Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the role of Huntress, who was first seen in the Birds of Prey teaser that dropped a couple of weeks ago, and has now been spotted wearing a dark hoodie on the set. The new pics are among several that have seen the light of day since filming began last month, though most of the set material we’ve seen so far has put the spotlight on Robbie, who’ll apparently be wearing an assortment of colorful costumes for Harley’s next big screen outing.

Last year, Robbie recalled how she pitched Birds of Prey as an “R-rated girl gang film,” explaining that she never wanted to see her character do a solo flick. Along with Harley and Huntress, the movie’s titular team will include Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, the latter of whom has also been spotted in recent set pics running through the streets of Gotham.
Director Cathy Yan has previously gone on record explaining that her movie has themes of female empowerment, and this angle is evident not just in the film’s central cast, but also in the apparent absence of the Joker, with the feature’s very title referencing Harley’s ‘emancipation’ from this relationship.
Indeed, writer Christina Hodson told Variety just last month that the Suicide Squad star “doesn’t have to be in anyone’s shadow,” adding that she’s “excited to see Harley stand on her own and be her own thing.” We’ll find out if audiences can get just as excited about Harley’s next adventure when Birds of Prey hits theaters on February 7th, 2020.
