Avengers: Infinity War starred more superheroes than any movie before it and miraculously it managed to give many of them their own arcs and everybody else at least the odd moment to shine. Still, some fans complained that it didn’t give enough to do to a few of the old favorites. We should know by now to put our trust in Marvel, though, as Avengers: Endgame has considerably shortened the cast list which will no doubt allow for some greater focus on the original team.
Following the Decimation, most of the second generation of heroes in the MCU have been dusted, leaving just the first six members of Nick Fury’s Avengers initiative. Well, plus War Machine, Ant-Man, Rocket, Nebula and Captain Marvel. Just as you might think, though, Endgame will be all about those core six Avengers. Or so says Marvel president Kevin Feige in the latest issue of Empire Magazine:
“People would point out that that Cap wasn’t in Infinity War a whole lot. And Iron Man didn’t really speak for that last half hour because of what was going on. But those characters, and all of the original six, are very much the focus of Endgame in a very personal and emotional way.”
The Endgame trailers so far have seen Marvel keep the plot close to its chest, but the marketing has done a terrific job of getting across the enormous emotional turmoil that our heroes are in following IW. It’s this feeling of letting not only their friends down but also the universe at large that inspires them not to give up and to go after Thanos in order to put things right.
Sure, Carol Danvers, Rhodey, Scott Lang and the last two Guardians will likely be big assets in this fight, but we can apparently look forward to Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk and Hawkeye being at the heart of the story of Avengers: Endgame. Whether this story will end in tragedy for one or more of them, we can’t say for sure just yet. But we heavily suspect it will.
