Benedict Wong Confirms Wong’s Whereabouts After Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War saw just about every super-powered hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe fight the battle against Thanos across multiple fronts. Well, just about everyone. After facing two fifths of the Black Order with Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Banner, Wong abruptly exited the movie as the Master of the Mystic Arts returned to the Sanctum Sanctorum to continue his job of protecting the realms from supernatural threat.

After facing two fifths of the Black Order with Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Banner, Wong abruptly exited the movie as the Master of the Mystic Arts returned to the Sanctum Sanctorum to continue his job of protecting the realms from supernatural threats. Since he never appeared again, fans were left to wonder whether Wong managed to survive the Decimation at the end of the movie or whether he was reduced to dust like his ally Stephen Strange.

Now, actor Benedict Wong has seemingly confirmed that his character was one of the lucky ones. Taking part in a recent Reddit AMA, Wong (the actor) was asked if Wong (the character) could become the Sorcerer Supreme now that Strange is toast. He then replied with the following:

“Why not! He’s currently guarding The Sanctum.”

So, if Wong is still around, does this mean that he might turn up in Avengers: Endgame? Well, the likelihood is yes, he will. After all, Benedict Wong’s name appears in the small print on the Endgame poster, which hints that he’ll feature in a prominent supporting role. That only makes sense, too. With Strange gone, the surviving heroes will surely turn to the other sorcerer with knowledge of the Infinity Stones to help them in their quest to defeat Thanos.

In particular, Wong was once the guardian of the Time Stone. Now this is us just veering into fan theory territory, but it’s widely assumed that time travel will feature heavily in the upcoming film. So, perhaps Tony Stark and company go to Wong to get advice on traversing the timeline? Whether he’ll encourage them or reprimand them, like he did to Strange in Doctor Strange, it’s hard to say, but we’ll find out soon, as Avengers: Endgame hits theaters in just over a month, on April 26th.
