Captain America has been exceptionally prominent in most of the Avengers: Endgame promotional footage released so far. The various TV spots shared in these last couple of days, for instance, are heavily based around Steve’s lines about refusing to move on and doing “whatever it takes.” And as one Reddit user has observed, Cap’s dominance in the dialogue stands in stark contrast to his presence in Avengers: Infinity War.
According to Redditor JamesEarlBonesHS, The First Avenger got a total of 25 lines in last year’s release, amounting to just 145 words. For a two-and-half hour movie, that’s not a lot of chatter, though it’s understandable given the many characters that the film was having to juggle. In the Endgame promotion alone, however, it’s said that Cap has been given 9 lines, adding up to 81 words. This means that just from trailers and TV spots, Steve has said more than half the number of words that he did in the entirety of Infinity War.
Whether or not Chris Evans’ character is similarly talkative in the film itself remains to be seen. But now that the ending of Infinity War has cut the core cast down considerably, Steve may end up getting significantly more screen time in this next release. In fact, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, the original six Phase 1 Avengers will be the primary focus of Endgame, despite other significant players like Nebula, Ant-Man and Captain Marvel still being in the mix.
It only figures that the original team will be getting the spotlight, seeing how Avengers: Endgame is expected to be the final outing for several of these heroes. But before Cap makes his widely predicted exit, we’ll find out what he still has left to say when the film hits theaters on April 26th.
