With Game of Thrones set to go out in an insane clash of fire and ice in a few weeks, speculation and theories are everywhere you click. So, as a thank you for clicking on this article, here’s a little more!
Sunday’s episode, “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms,” was the second of season 8. It had everything you could wish for when you know your world could be coming to an end, and soon. The losing of virginity, a last chance knighting of one badass woman, and drunken fireside singing. “Jenny’s Song” was part of that last one, which to some fans, could be more than just a catchy tune.
In a scene where we learned way too much about how Tormund grew to be as big as he is, we were also treated to Podrick’s vocal stylings, as he sung about Jenny, who was a “strange and lovely girl,” according to A Wiki of Ice and Fire. She won the affection of the Prince of Dragonstone, Duncan Targaryen, who fell in love and wed her, despite the wishes of his father, King Aegon. As a result, Duncan ending up losing his right to the Iron Throne. Fast-forward through a few years of Jerry Springer-level family drama, and Duncan ended up dying alongside his dad in the tragedy at Summerhall.
So, what could this mean for the ending of GoT? Well, the similarities between the song and Jon and Dany’s situation are more than a little striking and there may be a bit of foreshadowing going on here. As ComicBook.com put it:
Game of Thrones fans will recognize the awkward situation Snow is in as he’s had an intimate relationship with Daenerys Targaryen, who turns out to be his aunt. To make a long story short, Snow’s actually a birthright Targaryen and is the last surviving male, meaning he’s next in line to the throne. Suffice to say, the song in tonight’s episode could potentially mean that Jon takes a piece of Duncan’s book and gives up the throne for love, no matter how cringe-worthy it may be.
Meanwhile, the folks at NYPost.com feel the same way about “Jenny’s Song,” writing:
Since Jon is in line for the throne ahead of Daenerys, this foreshadows that he could relinquish his claim for her. Anyone holding out hope for King Jon Snow just got a blow to that theory.
Interesting, to say the least. But what do you think, Game of Thrones fans? Will Jon Snow lose his seat on the Iron Throne because of his love for Dany? And will he ultimately die because of his actions? Let us know in the comments section down below.
