As the creative mind responsible for Thanos, it’s only fitting that Jim Starlin was awarded a cameo in Avengers: Endgame.

If you’ve already seen the film (our review), you’ll know said cameo arrives when a visibly distressed Captain America attends grief counseling, and listens to a fellow survivor (read: Joe Russo) wax lyrical about a first date. Russo naturally takes up much of the spotlight, but when the camera pans over, Jim Starlin gets his five seconds of fame, and now that Endgame has made its global debut, the comic book scribe has posted a few behind-the-scenes photos on Facebook to give fans a better idea of how things went down.

Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers were particularly secretive about Endgame and its convoluted plot, so it’s no wonder these pictures were locked away in Marvel HQ until Friday, April 26th. But today’s the day, folks.

“My film debut,” wrote Starlin. “Had a great time with some terrific folks, like Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the script writers. When I wasn’t busy learning my one line or getting made up I had fun chatting with them. They and director Joe Russo were exceptionally open with me and for that I sincerely thank them, even though I had to keep my mouth shut for a year and a half afterwards. Glad I can now share theses pix with you.”

Starlin’s is just one of many, many cameos and MCU callbacks that made the cut, so it’s no wonder budding Marvel fans are wanting to see Endgame two or three times before they’ve properly digested the three-hour epic. It simultaneously closes the book on one era of the MCU while laying the groundwork for another, so we imagine this film will be discussed for months – if not years – to come.

Buoyed by a 21-picture saga and enough hype to sink a ship, Avengers: Endgame is playing everywhere as of today.
