Of course, one of the most important Guardians-related developments in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel is that the whole team is now back from the dead. Even Gamora is alive once more, albeit as a past version of herself who isn’t well acquainted with Star-Lord and the rest of the gang. As a result, Thanos’ adopted daughter has left the team, but there’s reason to believe that she’ll be a key character in Vol. 3.

For one thing, it’s clear by the end of Endgame that Peter Quill is still pining for Gamora. What’s more, during a 2017 interview with USA Today, Gunn claimed that he’d been having “some pretty intense conversations” with Zoe Saldana about a significant role in the third Guardians.

But while the gang may still be missing a member, they also have an exciting new arrival in Thor. After appointing Valkyrie the queen of New Asgard, the God of Thunder finishes Avengers: Endgame aboard the Benatar, squabbling with Star-Lord over who gets to be leader.

The implication is very much that Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, leaving fans all the more pumped for what was already a highly anticipated film. That being said, with production not expected begin until 2021, it could be a long wait before we see the “Asgardians of the Galaxy” in action.
