Titans Casts Doctor Who Alum As Mercy Graves For Season 2

Hot on the heels of our scoop from earlier this morning saying that Lex Luthor is being eyed as season 3’s big bad comes confirmation that his bodyguard, Mercy Graves, has been cast for season 2. If anything, this supports my own speculation that Lex will be name-dropped throughout the next wave of episodes so that groundwork be laid for his actual introduction.

In case you were wondering, Natalie Gumede (Death in Paradise, Doctor Who Christmas Special) has landed the gig, with her iteration of the character being described as follows:

“Mercy Graves is the ruthless, cunning, right hand and bodyguard to the notorious Lex Luthor – serving her boss with unquestioned loyalty. Her connection to the Luthors runs deep, as Mercy has been a friend of the family and in Lex’s life since they were young.”

Though it’s too early to say, the writers could somehow intertwine Mercy’s arrival with that of Deathstoke’s. After all, she’s shared the same space with Slade Wilson in the comics before, so we can’t rule out the possibility.

In recent years, Mercy Graves has found her way into the live action realm, having previously been a staple on Superman: The Animated Series, where she was voiced by Lisa Edelstein. To keep count, Tao Okamoto slipped into the role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, before Rhona Mitra did likewise on The CW’s Supergirl. Actually, both of those iterations are now dead, so the door is wide open for Gumede.

Right now, Titans season 2 lacks a premiere date, though all signs point toward an early 2020 debut. As always, keep watching this space are more develops.
