While I’m admitting that 2016’s Suicide Squad wasn’t exactly a crowning achievement in the art of cinema and didn’t adapt certain DC characters in the way it should’ve (Jared Leto’s Joker, for example), the film did have its moments. In fact, I really enjoyed how Batman was seen from the criminals’ point of view, as he was portrayed like an unstoppable force of nature. Though each member of Task Force X was badass in their own right, none of them could compare to the Dark Knight when their respective paths crossed – and that was pretty cool.
With James Gunn’s soft reboot, The Suicide Squad, looming, I’m sure a number of fans out there are likewise wondering if indeed we’ll be treated to yet another cameo to be made by the Caped Crusader. After all, Margot Robbie is yet again supposed to show up as Harley Quinn, so it wouldn’t be crazy to assume her nemesis will be there in some capacity.
As it turns out, one fan approached Gunn on Instagram regarding whether his movie includes Batman, and had the following response sent their way:
“You can check out Batman in #TheBatman, June 2021. #TheSuicideSquad will feature mostly, you know, The Suicide Squad.”
Though it could certainly be argued that Gunn left the door open for Batman, I think he just wants to focus on his merry band of misfits and not worry about guest characters. If any do show up, there are certainly many other DC heroes from which to choose.
Not to mention that seeing as how Matt Reeves is trying to get the Batman film franchise back on its feet, I’m guessing he wouldn’t be all that thrilled if Robert Pattinson were to be shoehorned into another production at a time when Warner Bros. are likewise no longer concerned with overall continuity and are instead focusing on solo tales.
Needless to say, we’ll know all once The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters on August 6th, 2021.
