Sony Has Already Hired Writers To Pen Spider-Man 3

If we were to single out the hottest topic in the superhero genre for this week, it'd most definitely have to be the situation involving Spider-Man. As you have no doubt heard by now, Sony and Disney have parted ways when it comes to sharing the wallcrawler for the silver screen. It's hard to accept, yes, but that's Hollywood for you, baby.

If we were to single out the hottest topic in the superhero genre for this week, it’d most definitely have to be the situation involving Spider-Man. As you have no doubt heard by now, Sony and Disney have parted ways when it comes to sharing the wall-crawler for the silver screen. It’s hard to accept, yes, but that’s Hollywood for you, baby.

In the time since word first dropped, the situation gets more interesting by the minute – especially when you consider how reports say Tom Holland can walk if he so chooses. Basically, his contract is said to contain the option for one more movie, so he’s not actually obligated for a third go-round.

According to Deadline, Sony and Marvel are currently embattled in a “tug of war” for director Jon Watts, but this article will instead focus on the screenwriting side of things. If there’s any positive news to report right now, it’s that Sony have secured the services of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers for the threequel.

For those who’ve been following along, that’s the same duo responsible for penning Spider-Man: Far From Home – and they did a damn fine job of it. That said, even if Disney and Sony are unable to mend fences, the next installment in the franchise should have a good narrative in theory. I’m just saying there are many factors going into why Webhead’s latest adventure raked in more than a billion dollars at the box office, and it all starts with the writing.

Since Spider-Man 3, or whatever it ultimately winds up being called, is just getting off the ground, there’s no concrete release date assigned to it. But given that Homecoming dropped in 2017 and Far From Home followed in 2019, one would think the next picture will arrive in 2021.
