The film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s cerebral classic, Ender’s Game, has an official release date of March 15, 2013. Ender’s Game has been in the works for some time, finally settling down with Summit, to be written and directed by Gavin Hood.
Ender’s Game is the first book in an epic series, in which mankind has nearly scraped by in two wars with the alien Formics, and now they’re training children through hypothetical war games to be commanders in the inevitable invasion. Ender Wiggin is the book’s lead character, who is one of the kid geniuses recruited to participate in the brutal challenges.
If done correctly, Ender’s Game could make a phenomenal film. However, it should be noted that the book is incredibly violent, and most of its characters are very young children. How this controversial script could be appropriately adapted to the big screen, I don’t know.
Writer/director Gavin Hood is most known for Rendition and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which aren’t exactly my favorite films, so I really hope he can step up his game for such a beloved book.
