Variety is reporting that Jessica Chastain has dropped out the Untitled Joseph Kosinski film which stars Tom Cruise. On top of that, Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough have now joined the sci-fi flick, which is based off of Kosinski’s comic book.
The film, which has gone under the previous working titles of Horizons and Oblivion, focuses on a “surface drone repairman (Cruise) who discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, [setting] off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.”
Chastain was set to play the “mysterious woman”, while Diane Kruger, Hayley Atwell and Kate Beckinsale tested for the other female role of Cruises character’s wife.
Kurylenko, who originally tested for the mysterious woman alongside Chastain, will now take on that part while Riseborough will play Cruise’s character’s wife in the film.
Being a bigger fan of Chastain’s than I am of these two actresses, I thought I’d be disappointed upon hearing the news. As it turns out though, I’m actually quite glad seeing as Chastain can now shoot the new Kathryn Bigelow film instead. On top of that, this also frees her up to take on some other films instead of being tied to this project for 6 months.
The Untitled Joseph Kosinski Film, stars Tom Cruise, Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough, and will be in cinemas on July 19th, 2013.
