Anchor Bay has announced the Blu-Ray release of Quentin Tarantino’s latest revenge flick Django Unchained for April. The film stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz.
If there’s one movie that I cannot wait to own on on Blu-Ray it’s Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. The film still holds the spot of being my favorite film of 2012 without a doubt. I think I’ve seen it maybe five or six times in theaters, with one of them being projected in 35mm. I absolutely love the blood-soaked revenge “Southern” from top to bottom and revisiting it again and again on Blu-Ray is going to be the highlight of 2013 for sure.
In Django Tarantino manages to sculpt one of the most violent squib-heavy revenge flicks that I’ve ever seen, while also pulling out Oscar-level performances across the board. Christoph Waltz actually took home the gold for his respective category, while Foxx, DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson went home empty-handed and without nominations.
Some have complained about the film’s use of the N word, while I simply accept and understand that the word was widely used during the film’s time period. Sure, Tarantino amps up the violence and dialogue to the highest level possible, but what else would you expect from the grand master of over-the-top wit and limb dismemberment?
Our very own Jonathan Lack had this to say about the film in his review:
“Django Unchained” is the best film of 2012, a true American classic and the definitive sign that Tarantino is a filmmaker for the history books, as relevant and important today as at any other point in his career.
The film will be coming to Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack with the original theatrical cut. No special features have been confirmed at this time, but we’ll update you as soon as we get them.
Django Unchained hits streets on April 16th, 2013.
