Fans of the hilarious FX spy comedy Archer are counting down the days until the sixth season arrives sometime next January, but now they can add another major event to their calendars. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will be sending Archer: The Complete Season Five, also known as Archer Vice, to home media platforms on January 6th, 2015.
The official description of the season should give you an idea of just how insane the spies at the center of the series got this past year:
Join suave super-spy Sterling Archer and his fellow covert government operatives for more irreverent adventures across the globe. With an overabundance of cocaine at their disposal, the team forms a cartel and sets out to sell the drug. As this dubious new venture speeds into hilarious motion, the team deals with addiction, Cheryl’s turn as a country singer, an FBI bust, an open marriage, Kenny Loggins, a South American dictator, and an announcement Archer couldn’t have imagined in his murkiest, tequila-influenced haze. Loaded with sexy, animated fun and all 13 outrageous episodes, the 5th action-packed season of Archer comes with a cool stash of classified extras.
The release will be presented in 1.78:1 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Fox also detailed the special features for the release, which are predictably minimal and lame (not a surprise given this series’ track record on Blu-Ray):
- “Midnight Blues” Music Video by Cherlene Tunt
- Cherlene Tunt Interview on Wake Up Country
- Old MacDonald Pam Poovey Had a Farm, The Musical
In spite of that, the Archer: The Complete Season Five Blu-Ray is definitely landing on this superfan’s shelf. Archer Vice was one of the ballsiest TV experiments I’ve seen in some time, and that it succeeded so wildly is a tribute to the talent of the showrunners, animators and cast. Plus, I don’t know about you, but I can’t get enough of that cover.
