In many ways, Brie Larson’s triumphant Oscar win was foretold long before Lenny Abrahamson’s Room released in theaters. Our glowing review coming out of Toronto International Film Festival last year was full of praise for not only Abrahamson’s intimate direction, but also Larson’s raw performance alongside her young co-star, Jacob Tremblay.
Imprisoned in the claustrophobic room, the pair lead a life that is decidedly insular; this is their home, and anything that exists beyond the four walls that encapsulate them is essentially alien. Larson plays Ma, a caring mother who has created a whole universe for Jack (Tremblay),
Lifted from Emma Donoghue’s best-selling novel of the same name, Room also stars Joan Allen, Sean Bridgers, and William H. Macy. Nevertheless, Abrahamson’s rendition is ultimately about the timeless bond between mother-and-son, and how that can transcend even the most harrowing of circumstances.
And so, to commemorate the film’s award coup, We Got This Covered is giving away one copy of Room on Blu-Ray.
