This week we’re giving away one copy of White House Down on Blu-Ray, courtesy of Sony Pictures.
Though the film was less successful at the box office this past summer than many had predicted (likely due to Olympus Has Fallen covering similar territory earlier in the year), our very own Jonathan Lack awarded it three stars out of five.
In his review, he wrote, “White House Down is not a good film, but I enjoy doubling over with laughter as much as anyone else, and there is always a certain appeal to this sort of polished, over-the-top action lunacy.” His conclusion:
The film has its obvious strengths and failings, with a nice sense of spectacle and disappointing character work, but overall, I find it hard to deny that the sheer mental deficiency of White House Down is practically intoxicating.
In White House Down, Channing Tatum stars as Capitol policeman John Cale, who finds himself at the center of a deadly coup against the White House. After being turned down for a Secret Service position that would have entailed guarding the President, Cale takes his daughter (Joey King) on a tour of the White House, steeling himself to deliver the news. Cale’s plans are disrupted when a nefarious paramilitary group storms the building and takes President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx) hostage. With everything he holds dear in harm’s way, Cale is forced to singlehandedly fight back against an army of heavily-armed mercenaries.
