Fox has announced Ang Lee’s latest visual masterpiece Life of Pi for 2D and 3D Blu-Ray combo packs in March. The film stars Suraj Sharma and Irrfan Khan.
Ang Lee is without a doubt one hell of a visual director. His stories range depending on the film, but he almost always knocks it out of the park from a visual standpoint. Life of Pi is his first foray into the 3D world and the result is nothing short of spectacular. I didn’t care so much for the film’s story or characters, but looking at it through 3D glasses was perhaps one of the biggest theatrical highlights of 2012 for me. I was beyond wowed by how he presented the story of a boy and his tiger stranded on a boat.
Again, the story never resonated with me and left me feeling very cold and generally mixed by everything I just watched, but I still can’t believe how much time and effort was put into the 3D transfer.
Our very own Jonathan Lack had this to say about the film in his review:
Life of Pi doesn’t live up to its own external or diegetic hype, but it offers a pleasant and thought-provoking fable about the nature of faith, brought to life by some truly amazing visuals.
