Fox Bringing The Watch To Blu-Ray In November

R-rated comedies have been holding strong at the box office lately, yet The Watch ended up being one of the biggest duds of the summer, both for comedies and just wide-released films in general. Things started falling apart when the title of the film was generalized down to The Watch, after previously being titled Neighborhood Watch.

Fox will be bringing Akiva Schaffer’s sci-fi comedy The Watch to Blu-Ray in November. The film stars Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Vince Vaughn and Richard Ayoade.

R-rated comedies have been holding strong at the box office lately, yet The Watch ended up being one of the biggest duds of the summer, both for comedies and just wide-released films in general. Things started falling apart when the title of the film was generalized down to The Watch, after previously being titled Neighborhood Watch.

The film started looking a little better with a trailer release that was mostly funny, but sort of forgettable. I’m one of few people out there that actually enjoyed Schaffer’s Hot Rod follow-up, but I guess his brand of humor just isn’t for everyone. I specifically liked the camaraderie between the four leads and I also thought the special effects work on the aliens was superb, especially when most studios opt for CGI creature design. It’s not the funniest film I’ve seen this year, but far from the worst.

Our very own Jonathan Lack absolutely hated the film. Here’s what he said about it in his review:

The Watch is an utterly soulless, lazy, painfully dull affair. It is not a film. It is a product, and an awful one. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
