Paramount has announced the Seth Rogen/Barbra Streisand comedy The Guilt Trip for Blu-Ray in April.
Seth Rogen is a pretty bankable R-rated comedy star. Barbra Streisand can mostly get older crowds out to a theater if she’s marketed correctly. Combine the two and you have something awful like The Guilt Trip.
On one side it tries selling the younger audience members another Rogen comedy, but then the other portion of the film tries to sell the Streisand crowd. The film ends up falling down more on the Streisand crowd, which makes Rogen feel awkwardly out of place and out of his element.
It’s truly an uncomfortable experience to watch, just because everything feels so forcefully shoved together. Their two comedy styles are drastically different, yet they’re always butting into each other during the film.
The film is far from funny, often relying on jokes that at no stage were even deemed funny. It came and went rather quickly during last year’s crowded December, but I’m sure it was made on the fly and not that hard to market.
Our very own Ben Kebner had this to say about the film in his review:
The Guilt Trip is something of a mixed bag. On one hand it has the combined talents of Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand who work terrifically off of one another, and on the other it’s not all that different from other road movies we have seen in the past.
