Paramount has announced the Blu-Ray release of Christopher McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher for May. The film stars Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike and Robert Duvall.
There’s nothing like a good old-fashioned bit of fun by way of simplistic, yet effective action. Christopher McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher is the perfect 90s Tom Cruise action film that just so happened to be released in 2012. Seriously, it’s loads of fun. The stripped down and light approach that McQuarrie approaches Reacher with is a breath of fresh air when compared to other overly-complicated action pictures.
Cruise takes the role head-on with a performance that’s trademark Cruise, yet still fun to watch. He’s the smartest, toughest and biggest bad ass of them all and Jack Reacher doesn’t bother with a single second showing us something that Reacher cannot do.
It opened modestly in the US, with rumors of a sequel sort of fading, due to the lacking worldwide gross, but don’t let that push you away. Jack Reacher is a refreshing action film that knows exactly what it’s trying to sell you on. It’s entertaining, always fun and features a lot of great hand-to-hand combat, as well as some impressive car stunt sequences, with Cruise doing most of his own.
Our very own Matt Donato had this to say about the film in his review:
While watching the film I learnt that not every action piece has to be full throttle insanity, and some films benefit from intelligent design to balance out scenes of ass-kickery and henchmen deaths – like Jack Reacher.
The film will be coming to home video in the form of a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack with the following bonus material:
- Commentary by Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie
- Commentary by composer Joe Kraemer
- When the Man Comes Around
- You Do Not Mess with Jack Reacher: Combat & Weapons
- The Reacher Phenomenon
Jack Reacher will be available to own on May 7th, 2013.
