Universal Studios has announced the action-packed Safe House, starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, for Blu-Ray in June.
Daniel Espinosa transitioned into American cinemas with Safe House; an action/thriller that wasn’t all that inventive. If anything it borrowed heavily from Paul Greengrass‘ style, which is something not one director has been successfully able to recreate. There’s just something about Greengrass’ camerawork that doesn’t simply feel like another shaky cam excuse.
Espinosa approaches Safe House with a familiar shaky approach that feels like a cross between Tony Scott and any generic action director working in the field today. Denzel adds some meat to his role, reprising his Training Day years, but Ryan Reynolds doesn’t do anything to make himself a household name.
Our very own Benjo Colautti had this to say about the film in his review:
Safe House has a cast full of actors who would make any director blush with confidence, but each and every one of them is used as scenery for the action scenes.
The Blu-Ray/DVD/UltraViolet combo pack will be presented in 1080p with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The following bonus content has been confirmed:
- pocket BLU
- Behind-the-scenes featurettes
- Blu-Ray exclusive content
Safe House will hit stores on June 5th, 2012.
